By default, installing Mono on the BeagleBone family of systems will install an older version (3.2.8 currently). You can upgrade your system as follows.
Ensure that you have a good connection to the internet. You do not have to have pre-installed Mono - these instructions will work for both upgrade and first installation.
- Upgrade your system
sudo apt-get upgrade
- Install the Xamarin apt-get key, and download server:
sudo apt-key adv --keyserver hkp://keyserver.ubuntu.com:80 --recv-keys 3FA7E0328081BFF6A14DA29AA6A19B38D3D831EF
echo "deb http://download.mono-project.com/repo/debian wheezy main" | sudo tee /etc/apt/sources.list.d/mono-xamarin.list
- Update existing components:
sudo apt-get update
- Upgrade Mono to the latest version:
sudo apt-get install mono-devel
sudo apt-get install mono-complete
- Verify that you now have the latest release:
Mono JIT compiler version 4.6.1 (Stable 126.96.36.199/abb06f1 Wed Sep 28 14:39:46 UTC 2016)
